Our Story

I have always loved creating art with my hands. The process of seeing something in my mind and bringing it to life and giving it expression brings great satisfaction to me. I have explored many mediums of art and each brings its own reward. However I have always been drawn to wood. I remember even as a child walking in the lumber yards with my dad and picking out lumber to build something. It was always so exciting. The smell of the different woods; redwood, pine, and cedar hung in the air, and still in my mind. Since then I have been working in woodshops for work as well as pleasure. I always loved the process of taking raw materials, wood, glue, and screws and fashioning something. Something people would want to have in their homes.

I began working at a woodshop and running a laser engraver for a local Alaskan business twenty some years ago. Mixing that love to create with computer graphics was a wonderful new love for me. I learned a lot working there, often staying after hours working on my own projects. Back then this was a pretty new way to add customisation to wooden crafts. I dreamed of having a laser engraver of my own and being able to take the business in directions that inspired me.

Alaska is an adventurous place to live and life often takes you on many roads and some moose trails. Some are planned, some are not. Now twenty plus years later I have that dream realized. Alaska Burning Bear has been a long time dream, and I am honored to have you here reading this now and letting me share this dream with you.
